Udaipur and then on to Bijapur

Sat 9th Feb 2019

A relaxed start to our day off, our guide arrived at 12.30. Trev & Andy elected to go on a boat trip round the lakes, the three amigos went to see the King’s vintage car collection instead, then on for lunch which turned out to be one of the best meals yet.. washed down with 8% Tuborg larger 👍 After lunch we took a walk round the the narrow streets of the Old town and then back to our Hilltop Palace.

That night we had drinks in the open air rooftop bar with great views over the city and lakes. We watched the sun set, it cooled quickly and we huddled round a fire and the dark rum seemed to help. It was now fully dark, Saturday night seems to be firework night here with weddings and loud music, we had a great view over the city to watch all the action😊

Udaipur to Bijapur 160kms

Trevor turned up complaining of stomach trouble, reckoned it was something he ate at dinner last night..but he had toilet roll packed and was ready to ride. 👍 We set off at 9am, it was quite cold; after a short distance we passed a group of people walking and headed by a man carrying a flag. In the middle of the group walking was a naked man with his manhood exposed to the cold morning air 😱Apparently he was one of the Jains religious sect; obviously on some sort of mission!

We got onto the highway, which had many stretches of roadworks; strangely even that was fun as we played with the other traffic. A quick stop for petrol and chai and then on again. We were now approaching Chittograph and could see a big fort running along the top of a long high ridge of rock. We turned off the main road and onto a nice twisty road leading up to the top of the ridge; we stopped to admire the amazing view over the plain below.

Comfort break..that’s better

Perched right on top of the peak was a guy who seemed to be living there in a tent. I went to have a look and said hello, he was happy to have his pic taken. Quite a dude 😊

Holy dude

The road was windy and went through interesting scenery; we thundered through many small villages, all very dirty with animals roaming everywhere; this really is off the tourist route and the road surface was bad , or non existent in places. Dirty as these places are the people are so friendly and the ladies saris so colourful. The children are smiling and waving as we ride through and add more noise to the existing chaos. At one point we met a herd of goats followed by some sheep. The first two riders spooked the sheep and they came charging at Fred who was next along, just part of riding in India 😆

This sheep wants a piece of Fred!

We turned off though yet another small dirty village and entered Bijapur Castle, our hotel for the night, an oasis in the midst of this crazy place 😋

Rufty tufty biker 😎

We were welcomed with garlands of flowers and were each given a red spot on our forehead; there was also some music to complete our arrival 👍 This place was built in the 16th century and the plumbing was probably done at the same time.. we had luke warm water 😱

That night we sat round a fire in the courtyard, drinking our rum. Got talking to an Indian couple, who as it happened live in the USA in Milwaukee, not far from Bo.. small world. After dinner there was some loud music and singing coming from somewhere outside the castle. Unfortunately even earplugs couldn’t keep the noise out and it went on all night, it finally stopped at 6am by which time I’d given up the will and got up anyway 😡
