Breakfast in Chiang Mai

Thursday 8th February 2018

Taxi arrived on time for the journey to Hrow to catch my 21.30 flight to Bangkok and then on to Chiang Mai, Thailand. Started with a visit to the Premium lounge at T2, a couple of glasses of Sauvignon Blanc to kill some time.

On the Bangkok flight got sat next to a guy who happened to live 5 miles from me; small world! Managed to doze for couple of hours and arrived Chiang Mai nearly 13hrs flying later on time at 18.30 the next day. My bags arrived and went out into 28c and the crazy chaos that is Thailand.

Arrived at the hotel, said they had no reservation for me.. 🤔 hmmm. As it happened they had rooms available so I’m in 😊. A few beers then to bed.

Saturday 10th Feb 18

The bed was rock hard, but slept ok. This is a “budget” hotel and Thai plumbing is never that good; no hot water in the sink so have to shave in cold water. I’m on top floor and finally managed to get hot water in the shower after running for 10mins! But they do have a swimming pool 😊

Off to get breakfast, full English of course, and call into TBB shop to find out what the start time is for our motorbike adventure tomorrow and meet up with some of the other guys on the trip.

Met Jon and Pete from UK, Jon lives in Aylesbury would you believe! They have just arrived this morning and are in need of some sleep. Also met Mohamed from India and still to meet 2 guys from USA; so total of 6 plus TBB. The bikes have been delivered to the hotel and we leave at 9ish in the morning. I will be going with Duncan on a different route and we will meet up with the others at the Laos border the day after.

Tonight it’s beer, food and beer followed by some Thai boxing and tomorrow the biking adventure begins 😎

Have a great time John. Very envious! Just taken the grand children around the farm a few times times on my small off-roader. They even wanted to do it in the rain. It’s in the blood. Not quite the same as biking it around Asia😉!
Pass on my best wishes to Dunham and Alan.
    All the best mate,
    Bernie
